Application Notes
Harmane is a widely studied β-carboline alkaloid that occurs in many plants, first reported from seeds of the Syrian rue, Penganum harmala by Goebel in 1841. Harmane acts as a potent and selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Harmane has a wide range of bioactivities and is notably neuroactive, causing tremors when consumed by animals. Harmane is present in tobacco smoke.
