Application Notes
Hortein was first reported by Proksch and co-workers at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf in 2001. Hortein is produced by the marine fungus Hortea weneckii and features an unusual acenaphtho[1¢,2¢:7,8]naphthalene ring system not previously found in natural products. Hortein did not display antibacterial or insecticidal activity but has otherwise not been explored.
