Application Notes

Avenanthramide A is a member of a complex of phenolics produced by oats (Avena sativa) isolated and synthesised by Collins, Food Research Centre, Agriculture Canada in 1989. Structurally avenanthramides are a fusion of cinnamic and anthranilic acids. Specifically, avenanthramide A is a conjugate of p-coumaric acid and 5-hydroxyanthranilic acid. Avenanthramide A acts as a plant phytoalexin and antioxidant to protect oats in response to pathogen attack. N-Cinnamoylanthranilates have antiallergic, antihistamine and bronchodilator activity.
