Methoxyellipticine, 9-
Application Notes
9-Methoxyellipticine is an alkaloid constituent of Bleekeria sp.. 9-Methoxyellipticine is a potent antitumor agent with IC50 values of 0.39, 1.9 and 0.39 μmol when tested against a range of human cell lines, including MCF7, its multidrug-resistant counterpart VCREMS,MDA-MB-231 and thTERT-HME1, respectively. 9-Methoxyellipticine inhibits the growth of and DNA, RNA and protein synthesis by L1210 leukemia cells via intercalation. 9-Methoxyellipticine is also a potent a potent antioxidant in DPPH and FRAP assays and induces haemolysis in human red blood cells. Extracts containing 9-methoxyellipticine inhibit Cdc25s phosphatases and are active in the carrageenan-induced rat paw edema assay. 9-Methoxyellipticine is also active against plasmodia and trypanosomes.
