USF 2550A (4-hydroxy-3,6-dimethyl-2H-pyran-2-one) is a metabolite isolated from Penicillium sp. and the unidentified fungus USF 2550. US 2550A is an antioxidant and DPPH radical scavenger. USF 2550A demonstrates a new type of DPPH radical scavenging activity which is time-dependent, contrary to α-tocopherol.
