Application Notes
Artemisinin is a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from the aerial parts of Artemisia annua L.. Artemisin is best known for its activity against the malaria parasite including resistant strains, but also has antitumor, immunomodulatory and antiviral activity. It has been shown to be effective against schistosomiasis and hepatitis. Artemisin alkylates various proteins in the malaria parasite involved in glycolysis, hemoglobin metabolism, and redox defense.
