Xanthomegnin
Application Notes
Xanthomegnin is a bis-napthopyrone pigment isolated from several Penicillium and Aspergillus species. Xanthomegnin is a causative agent of death of farm animals fed fungi-infected feed. Xanthomegnin was first reported in 1963 by Day and coworkers from the pathogenic fungi, Trichophyton megnini. Its structure was confirmed 8 years later by X-ray studies by Himes and coworkers. Xanthomegnin is a suspected genotoxic carcinogen. Xanthomegnin is a potent inhibitor of inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS).
