X 14885A is a novel divalent cation ionophore closely related to the polyether antibiotic, calcimycin. X 14885A was first isolated from a soil sample collected in Wyoming by Westley and co-workers, Hoffman la-Roche in 1982. X 14885A possesses potent antibacterial activity. The cation affinity of X 14885A is: Mg >Ca, Sr=Ba >>Li, Na, Rb, K, Cs.
