Application Notes
3-Nitropropionic acid is a small molecular weight antibacterial compound isolated by Carter and McChesney in 1949. Since this time, 3-nitropropionic acid has been found in a large number of fungi, plants and bacteria. 3-Nitropropionic acid has been responsible for a number of instances of human and animal toxicity due to mouldy foodstuffs. Recently, 3-nitropropanoic acid has found use as a chemical tool for investigating various neurodegenerative disorders.
