Neoxaline is a fungal alkaloid isolated from Aspergillus japonicas by Omura and colleagues at the Kitasato Institute, Japan, in 1979. Neoxaline was found to weakly stimulate the central nervous system of mice after oral administration (100mg/kg) and had no antibacterial or antifungal activity. Neoxaline inhibits cell proliferation and induces cell cycle arrest at the G(2)/M phase in Jurkat cells. Neoxaline is closely related to meleagrin.
